SCI USA coordinates volunteer placements within the SCI network and with partner organizations for both U.S. citizens and nationals and International volunteers from around the globe.

We encourage you to take time to reflect, research, and prepare before submitting an application to volunteer, International voluntary service is a meaningful commitment that works best when expectations, availability, and motivations are well understood.

  • Reflect on your motivation: SCI projects are rooted in peace building, solidarity, and cooperation. Consider why you want to volunteer and how you hope to contribute and learn.
  • Review project details carefully: Each project has specific goals, timelines, and living conditions. Make sure the project aligns with your interests, availability, and comfort level.
  • Plan ahead: Application reviews, interviews, visa processes, and travel arrangements can take several weeks or longer, especially for mid- and long-term placements.
  • Understand your responsibilities: Volunteers are expected to actively participate in project work, respect local communities, and engage in shared living environments.
  • Consider financial and logistical factors: Volunteers are responsible for travel costs, visas, insurance, and personal expenses unless otherwise specified.
